Tishaura Jones, the next mayor of St. Louis
Another piece of St. Louis history is set to take place tomorrow. The inauguration of St. Louis Mayor-elect Tishaura Jones—the city's 47th mayor and the first African-American woman elected to the office in St. Louis—is scheduled for noon, in the rotunda of St. Louis City Hall. The third and fourth floors of the rotunda will remain open; however, due to COVID-19, officials are encouraging St. Louisans to watch the inauguration ceremonies from home via STL TV. Observers at City Hall will need to submit to a temperature screening as well as wear a mask and practice social distancing inside the rotunda.
Before Jones is sworn in, there will be featured speakers including Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, St. Louis County Executive Sam Page, East St. Louis Mayor Robert Eastern III, former Missouri senator Shalonn Kiki Curls, and Kwame Building Group Chairman and CEO Anthony Thompson. Comptroller Darlene Green will also be sworn in at noon. Six members of the Board of Aldermen will be sworn in earlier, at 10 a.m. Those are:
- Brandon Bosley (Ward 3)
- Dan Guenther (Ward 9)
- Sarah Martin (Ward 11)
- Tom Oldenburg (Ward 16)
- John Collins-Muhammad (Ward 21)
