Built in 1972, this ranch in Ellisville was once a warm-toned brick structure with red painted double doors. Despite an unusual mashup of exterior features, homeowner Stephen Martines only saw potential.
“I just had this vision of what I could do," he says. "And, believe it or not, the stuff that you see in the house now is identical to my original vision of the home."
Martines' first order of business was to accentuate the home’s architecture and curb appeal, transforming it into a modern farmhouse with new landscaping, an updated A-line roof above the front porch, and a stylish black-and-white exterior. On the inside, the main floor underwent a complete redesign with Martines taring down walls, ripping up carpet, and laying down new laminate floors.
The open layout design highlights vaulted ceilings and a remodeled kitchen with a large serving hatch that makes it ideal for entertaining guests in the adjacent dining space. In addition to the kitchen's stainless-steel appliances and granite countertops, a center waterfall island holds a microwave and wine cooler.
The living room design highlights the ceiling and exposed wood beams with soft gray walls and cream-colored shiplap accents. A brick fireplace adds interest. The house holds three bedrooms, including a main suite, and two bathrooms.
The basement is unfinished. “I'd love to see a family expecting or new buyer come in and this be a dream home for them because this was our little dream home,” Martines says.
Martines and his daughter made a lot of memories in the house. “She was there with me pretty much every step of the way,” he says. “She had a blast one day grabbing the hammer and helping daddy knock down a wall.”
