Hello again! In my first weeks back at work since maternity leave, I’ve never been more grateful to my body–or felt more empowered in all that it can do. I’m finally becoming active again—taking longer walks and yoga classes—and it feels so good. If you’re also looking for easy ways to return to movement after an especially slow-activity summer, then check out the community activities below. Another aspect of wellness that’s been on my mind during the past few weeks is, well, in my mind. In recent months, there’s been plenty of media buzz about the concept of “mommy brain,” or the brain fog experienced in pregnancy and postpartum. It’s now being understood as a more complex shift—or “the most dramatic, seismic, endocrinological, and neurobiological experience you can have in adult life,” according to this article by TIME. And Scientific American reports new maternal neuroscience research suggests these life events reshape the brain in profound ways to make way for the self-reflection and empathy needed to bond with and raise a child. So great news for fellow moms: We’re not losing our minds—we’re gaining a whole new way of using them.
