Side Project says there are currently no plans moving forward on the reported St. Charles expansion: Is acclaimed Maplewood brewery Side Project Brewing opening a second location in St. Charles? Not so fast, co-owner Cory King tells SLM. After the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported this week about a possible Frenchtown expansion featuring a tasting room, patio, and food truck pavilion, King told SLM there are currently no active plans moving forward. He confirmed that the building in question was purchased two years ago but said the brewery was unaware the property would be discussed during a recent St. Charles City Council work session. St. Charles County moves toward Airbnb regulations: St. Charles officials are taking the first step toward regulating short-term rentals in unincorporated parts of the county. On Monday, the St. Charles County Council introduced a bill that would require operators of Airbnb- and VRBO-style rentals to obtain county licenses, undergo inspections, and follow new occupancy and spacing rules. Under the proposal, short-term rentals could not operate within 600 feet of another licensed rental and overnight stays would be capped at two people per bedroom. The bill would also prohibit rentals from being used as event venues and require operators to provide guests with rules covering parking, noise, trash, and occupancy. Michelle Woods, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County, spoke in support of the bill. “The concern is that short-term rentals take up residential properties and repurpose them into commercial,” she said. “Since there’s already a lot of pressure on the market right now that’s causing prices to spike, any additional pressure is a concern.” A vote is expected during the May 26 meeting.

Kyle Rudy connects shoppers with local vendors at Under the Yellow Umbrella
Kyle Rudy grew up in Weldon Spring but says he never expected to build a career so closely tied to St. Charles Main Street. As director of business development for Under the Yellow Umbrella, he helps support a shop that features products from more than 70 local vendors. Rudy says the role has given him a new appreciation for the community where he grew up. —Kathleen Lees
Grandma's Cookies has once again been nominated for the USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Awards’ Best Cookie Shop list, marking the third consecutive year the local bakery has earned a spot in the national competition. Voting is now open.
The St. Charles City-County Library is hosting its Mini Book Fair on Saturday at the St. Charles Community College Recreation Center (4601 Mid Rivers Mall). The fair will feature low-cost books, comics, puzzles, games, and more. Admission is free, with most items being $3 or less.
Mint Cannabis in St. Peters (150 Mid Rivers Mall) is partnering with ImpactLife to host a series of summer blood drives beginning this Saturday from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Donors can receive a $20 e-gift card or donate the reward value to a nonprofit organization. Walk-ins will be accepted, though reservations are preferred.
Adults ages 60 and older are invited to explore the region’s past during Community& Change: A Local History of St. Charles County on May 29 at St. Charles Community College. The program will feature SCCHS president Joan Koechig sharing stories and historical insights about the people and events that shaped the county.
Grand Allusion will headline a summer concert at Defiance Ridge Vineyards (2711 S. Missouri 94) on May 29. It will feature hits from Styx and a fireworks show after the performance, weather permitting. Doors open at 5 p.m., with music beginning at 6:30 p.m.
