A MESSAGE FROM SPIRITS ADVOCATE CLARA NOBLE

As summer winds down and we get a taste of more pleasant days to come, it’s tempting to enjoy the last vestiges of the season on the patio of a favorite cocktail bar. It’s also a reminder that cocktail bars will soon be changing their menus to reflect more seasonal fall flavors, such as corn, fig, plum, squash and ginger. In the meantime, if you’ve been meaning to make your way back to a favorite bar to try interesting summertime libations, then now's the time. Cheers!

HOT SPOT

Harvey’s Coffee & Cocktails

There’s a long history of combining spirits and coffee. (Irish coffee, anyone?) So perhaps it’s no surprise that the recently opened Harvey's Coffee & Cocktails (2706 Olive) is already garnering a loyal following. At the Midtown bar, the menu runs the gamut, with drip coffee, clarified margaritas, wine, beer, and more. Harvey’s also boasts an entire section of espresso martinis with optional ingredients to modify including chocolate, caramel, and tequila.

INSIDER TIP

Guava Lamp at Retreat Gastropub

Now is the time to enjoy a classic summertime sipper at a favorite cocktail bar, such as Retreat Gastropub (6 N.Sarah), which serves up the Guava Lamp, made with reposado tequila, rhum agricole, falernum, guava, pink peppercorns, lemon, and basil oil. The bright coral-orange drink is topped with verdant green drops, perfectly encapsulating its namesake.
