St. Louis CITY SC head coach Bradley Carnell got straight to the point after Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City. “We needed this,” Carnell said. It had been five weeks since the club’s last win in Major League Soccer play, a stretch of games that saw the offense fall flat, with positive results being hard to come by. But this past weekend left Carnell with a list of things that pleased him, including Roman Bürki’s clean sheet, the selfless play of contributors up and down the lineup, and a buzzing yet balanced attack. In this edition, we highlight some of the standout performers from the memorable rivalry win. Indiana Vassilev scored two goals and authored one of his finest performances, while Njabulo Blom turned in a steady, inspiring effort in the midfield. We also share details on an upcoming autograph signing, a milestone for Caden Glover, and more.

When The Soccer Tournament, a new made-for-TV, 7-on-7 competition, kicks off next month, it will feature plenty of professionals who once called St. Louis home. The inaugural TST will take place June 1–4 in Cary, North Carolina, where 32 teams from around the world will play for a $1 million winner-take-all prize. Nearly two dozen former St. Louis Ambush, Saint Louis FC, and Saint Louis Athletica players are due to participate as of today. TST is led by the same organizers behind The Basketball Tournament, which has become a popular mid-summer event for ESPN over the past decade. The Soccer Tournament will air on NBC properties, including Peacock and CNBC. Visit the tournament website to view the schedule and browse the latest rosters.
Caden Glover has enjoyed back-to-back weeks full of memorable moments. On May 13, the 16-year-old reached a milestone by becoming the first player born in 2007 to appear in an MLS match. This past weekend, Glover achieved another first: his first goal as a pro. Glover found the back of the net in the 51st minute of St. Louis CITY SC 2’s eventual 5-4 shootout victory over Sporting Kansas City II.
