There are few phrases more suspicious to me as a parent than “fun for the whole family." Usually, it means my toddler is having the time of his life while I’m holding his shoes, water bottle, half-eaten snack, and whatever fidget he has decided is emotionally significant that day. So when I hear about something designed for parents to actually participate, I’m listening.
That’s part of what caught my attention about the new Big Backyard Bash, which debuts this weekend in St. Charles. The founder, a mom of four, wanted an event where everyone–tots, littles, bigs, grown-ups–could find something to do together. We’re talking giant inflatables, relay races, rock-climbing walls, a mechanical bull, GellyBall, foam parties, bungee trampolines, and more.
Will I personally be mounting a mechanical bull? Absolutely not. I have a mortgage and lower-back pain. But a three-legged race? Put me in, coach.
🗓️ As for my family's weekend? We’ll be checking out the Bash in person, spending a precious final afternoon at our community pool, and exploring the wide world of fingerpainting on canvas in the backyard (our latest obsession).

New Big Backyard Bash brings 30+ giant inflatables to St. Charles
Consider this one last chance to wear the kids out before summer officially clocks out. The new Big Backyard Bash takes over St. Charles August 29–30 with more than 30 giant inflatables, water slides, foam parties, family competitions, food trucks, live music, and plenty of opportunities for parents to get in on the action, too.
🛝 The backyard games got a serious upgrade. More than 30 giant inflatables join rock-climbing walls, water slides, obstacle courses, a mechanical bull, bungee trampoline, foam parties, and GellyBall—a kid-friendlier mashup of Nerf, laser tag, and paintball.
🥔 Parents, you’re playing, too. Three-legged races, potato sack races, relays, and other old-school competitions are designed for the whole family, meaning standing on the sidelines holding everyone’s water bottles is not an option.
🍧 They’ve thought about the August-in-St.-Louis part. More than a dozen food trucks, 75-plus local vendors, and live music—including Steve Ewing—round out the weekend, while an air-conditioned cooling tent offers a much-needed escape when everyone is hot, sweaty, and approximately 37 percent funnel cake.
Reimagined in Webster Groves, this week’s pick is an iconic restaurant that serves up all the kid favorites such as burgers, grilled cheese, and 55 flavors of Sno-Balls.
St. Louis CITY SC takes on FC Dallas August 30! Specially priced tickets include $25 in credit for concessions or the team store. Plus, a limited number of attendees get the chance to watch warmups from the pitch. Purchase tickets.
