The 23rd iteration of Taste of St. Louis, which takes place outdoors at Ballpark Village this weekend, has distinguished itself in several ways. Itâs the first year that food trucks have been a part of the mix and the first year that the focus has been on lesser-known food vendors. The result: 40-plus players, roughly double the number of previous Taste events. If you think youâre up to speed on the local food scene, check out Cheryl Baehrâs article on the Taste, and take note of the participants, many of whom you might not recognize, with some not even having a social-media presence. The event is a prime example of the culinary variety our region has to offer. âWe have everything from Caribbean to Mexican to Asian,â says Restaurant Row director Michele Coen. âThereâs Thai, arepas, a St. Charles barbecue restaurant called Bruh Nem BBQ, Colombian, Jamaican. I think we have just about every region covered.â

Poor Phone Skills: Service is typically synonymous with a customerâs experience at a restaurant, but itâs equally important when that customer is elsewhere. Dining establishments that specialize in carryout or delivery, in particular, must ensure that the staffer answering the phone communicates in a clear, polite manner. The person must also be able to convey essential informationâsuch as hours, addresses, directions, specials, and wait timesâover the phone. Otherwise, customers may simply hang up and call a different restaurant.
Porano (13323 Manchester): After a six-year hiatus, the fast-casual Italian restaurant from Gerard Craftâs Niche Food Group reopened Monday in Des Peres. Customers can enjoy the brandâs signature pastas, grain bowls, salads, Detroit-style pizzas, gelato pops, and frozen Aperol spritzes.
El Burro Loco (1101 Lucas): The whimsically decorated, five-year-old downtown Mexican eatery, located a block north of Washington Avenue, closed 10 days ago. The Central West End flagship location remains open.
Tastyâs Street Eats (205 N. Truman, Crystal City): Slated to open next month, the brick-and-mortar restaurant will offer Southern-style barbecue, pork, chicken, and fish items, as well as signature sandwiches (Italian Beef and Philly cheesesteak) and âcake shakes.â
