This past weekend, I cajoled my kids into helping me move a desk from the second-floor family room into the living room. There, in time, it’ll take on a new purpose. For far too long, the wood-and-glass secretary with a flip-down writing desk had only been used as a place of last resort for stuffing papers and files. My plan is to convert the secretary into a bar, line the shelves with antique glass, and maybe add interior LED lighting. I’m also debating whether to strip and re-stain it, or possibly paint it a new color. Do you upcycle old furniture? If so, email me with details about your latest project. In the meantime, the search begins for a local craftsperson who can help revive this centuries-old beauty. And, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the second episode of the design podcast House of Lou, which drops today. Kelly Spencer of The Social Affair shares some of her best tips for holiday entertaining and you won’t want to miss our conversation. I especially love what she says about seeking the help of experts, caterers, florists, and the like, so that we can all enjoy the season a bit more. Until next week.
