Plus: Local preservationist specializes in French Colonial architecture, how to combine old and contemporary architecture, and local events for the design enthusiast
After an almost two-year search, a family friend finally secured his dream house. One night last week, this friend’s longtime real estate agent called with a plan: A house in the desired neighborhood and price range was hitting the market in the next couple of days. She thought they should see it right away. The house is great, my friend reported back to me. It’s full of potential, though it needs some work. He would be all-in if the sellers approved the offer...and 48 hours later, they did!
As many of us know, either by first-hand account or otherwise, house-hunting is no easy feat. This week, we offer insights into the local real estate scene, with details about which neighborhoods are growing and why. We also share an article about a local preservationist whose expertise is French Colonial architecture. And we talk to architect Mike Killeen about how to design a home addition with a personality of its own.
Finally, a quick reminder: Entry submissions for the 2025 Architect & Designer Awards competition are being accepted now through October 15. Click here for all of the details, including a look at this year’s panel of judges.
Until next week!
