A message from sports writer Justin Horneker

The U.S. Men’s National Team cruised through the group stage, but the squad—captained by St. Louis native Tim Ream—will have a tricky opponent tonight in Bosnia & Herzegovina.  The knockout rounds roll quickly from here, with the winner heading to Seattle for a chance at the quarterfinal. Read all you need to know about tonight’s highly anticipated match in this week’s featured story.

In other news, it won’t be long until the MLS season returns. CITY SC players have been hard at work as the league’s biggest rumored signing—Robert Lewandowski to the Chicago Fire—has officially been announced. Some CITY SC roster news should be right around the corner as well.

What To Know

This week in CITY SC’s “40 Days of Soccer”

There are a few Pick Up CITY events this week, beginning Thursday in Ferguson and continuing Friday with morning soccer on 20th Street, where CITY SC will have the road closed from 7–9 a.m.

CITY2 match finished behind closed doors after shooting near the stadium

CITY2 hosted Austin FC 2 on Sunday, but the match was suspended shortly before halftime following a shooting at 17th and Chestnut. It was unclear at the time where the incident had taken place, leading to confusion and panic in the stadium on a day meant to celebrate youth soccer champions. The match resumed behind closed doors, with CITY2 losing 2-0 after starting a club-record six CITY SC Academy players. The club is asking fans who attended for feedback on its shelter-in-place protocols.

Midfielder Drew Dowling and forward Blake Wilson named MLS NEXT Pro All-Stars

Dowling and Wilson will join the MLS NEXT West All-Stars during All-Star weekend in Charlotte on July 27, before competing in the skills competition on July 28. The pair will become the sixth and seventh CITY SC Academy All-Stars, following in the footsteps of Lorenzo Cornelius and Owen Jorgensen, who represented St. Louis last season.
